Hunters of Color

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I help?

  • Donate
HOC’s number one need is funding. By donating, you ensure sustainability for our programs and organization as we continue to fight to ensure that the “Outdoors are for Everyone.” Plus, we are a 501(c)(3); your donation is tax deductible!

  • Volunteer
Do you have experience in non-profit development? Community organizing? Business? Finances? Marketing? Communication? Social media management? We are always looking for more talented individuals from all demographics. Email lydia@huntersofcolor.org to see what volunteer opportunities are available now.

  • Spread the Word
Do you know someone who might be interested in HOC programs? Send them our website, Instagram handle (@huntersofcolor), or forward them our newsletter!

  • Buy and Wear HOC Gear
You are a walking billboard for a great cause when your shirt says “The Outdoors are for Everyone.”

How is Hunters of Color structured?

Hunters of Color was founded by Jimmy Flatt, Thomas Tyner, and Lydia Parker. Jimmy is now the Programs Director, and Lydia is our Executive Director. Thomas has moved on to a new career, but is still an active hunter!

We have seven board members: Alex Harvey, Brianne Lauro, Chris Hager, Crystal Egli, Daniel Lucio, Kami Elsisie, and Will Jenkins. Information about our founders, staff, and board can be found in the “Team” section of our website.

Where are you located?

We are based out of Oregon, but we are growing quickly, with multiple events planned across the country, from California to New York. We are working on building "HOC Communities" nationwide, where BIPOC and our allies can come together for learning, camaraderie, and (of course) hunting. Sign up for our newsletter to stay tuned!

Who can wear Hunters of Color gear?

Everyone! We have shirts that are intended to empower BIPOC, such as our “I Belong Out Here” shirt. To us, this shirt says, “I defy the stereotypes and the odds; I am a hunter of color.” We also have shirts for allies. Prior to purchasing one of these shirts, we kindly ask that allies take our Ally Pledge here. An Ally Pledge card will also be provided with your purchase so that you can remember your commitment to allyship and revisit it at anytime.

Who can be involved in the mentorship program?

The HOC Mentorship program is open to any adult (18+ years old) in the United States. We are working on becoming active in Canada as well, and currently providing educational programming for youth outside of our mentorship program.
