Impact & Mission Section

Driven by Purpose. Powered by Community.

Hunters of Color is driven by three core mission pillars that guide our work and impact. We are advancing conservation by empowering BIPOC voices in sustainable practices and environmental policy-making. Through community-building efforts, we host over 70 events each year, connecting thousands of participants nationwide and fostering lasting relationships. At the heart of it all, we are committed to celebrating traditions by uplifting ancestral knowledge and land-based heritage in every program we lead.

Programs That Connect, Educate, and Inspire

From first hunts to environmental advocacy, our programs are designed to empower BIPOC communities with knowledge, access, and a deeper connection to the land.

R3 Mentorship Program

Our Recruit, Retain, Reactivate model pairs new and aspiring hunters with experienced mentors who provide guidance every step of the way. This program creates a welcoming, supportive environment where participants can gain confidence, develop essential skills, and build lifelong connections within the community.

Conservation & Stewardship

We’re committed to increasing BIPOC representation in environmental stewardship and conservation leadership. Through education, fieldwork, and policy engagement, our program empowers participants to advocate for public lands, protect wildlife habitats, and contribute to a more inclusive future in conservation spaces.

Education & Events

Our workshops bring participants into the field to learn sustainable hunting practices, safety protocols, and conservation ethics. With a strong emphasis on cultural heritage and ancestral knowledge, these sessions foster a respectful relationship with the land and equip individuals with the skills needed to thrive outdoors.

Voices from the Field

Discover what the community is saying about their journey with Hunters of Color.
I was a little nervous going in since it had been so long, but once I tried it that first time, all the nerves disappeared. It felt great, and hitting one when I didn’t think I would was such an exciting moment.
Overall, it was such a fun experience. I highly recommend Hunters of Color to anyone interested in hunting, fishing, or learning essential outdoor skills. It is an amazing group and an incredible opportunity.
I would of never expected to be out hunting until getting involved with Hunters of Color!
What I love most about this group is that we all come from different backgrounds.
With Hunters of Color, you also get to experience the richness of different cultures and backgrounds. The hunting is fun, but it is all those moments in between that create lasting memories.
I will admit, I was a little nervous since I do not have much firearm experience. It feels empowering to take ownership of the sport, and the whole experience has been more inviting and easier than I expected.
Getting to be able to watch BIPOC hunters honor and hunt was so cool. I learned so much and was able to take what I learned that trip and apply it to the woods back home and found my first turkeys! A memory I’ll have forever

Standing With Us in the Movement

Partners in Representation and Conservation
Our sponsors are more than logos on a page—they’re active partners in shaping a future where diversity in conservation is the norm. By standing with us, sponsors help break down barriers, create opportunities, and leave a lasting impact on the outdoors.
Fueling Change, One Gift at a Time
Every contribution—big or small—helps us mentor new hunters, host community events, and build a movement rooted in inclusion and stewardship. Donors are the heartbeat of our mission, ensuring that this work not only grows, but endures.

Time is Running Out — We Need You Now

Protect access. Protect tradition. Protect our future.

Hunters of Color is at a critical crossroads. Shifts in funding priorities have put the programs we’ve worked tirelessly to build at risk — mentorships, land access, and leadership pipelines for BIPOC hunters.
We cannot afford to lose momentum. Your immediate support ensures conservation is for everyone, not just a few.

Become a monthly donor of $10 or more before October 15 & you’ll be entered to win a pair of Maven binoculars, thanks to our partners at Maven.

Every gift matters. Every action counts. Together, we can keep this mission alive.
